Welcome Rod
We are absolutely delighted to introduce our new seasonal volunteer and booking coordinator, Rod. Rod lives right near the beach and is known and loved in a number of local roles over the years, making him a fantastic addition to our team. We are incredibly grateful for the enthusiasm and commitment he has already shown in helping us get this project off the ground, especially after what was a rather sad start to the year for the group. It is a pleasure to have someone with s

Thank you Jane
It is with a hugely heavy heart that I share this short video to celebrate our wonderful founding member Jane Urquhart. Without Jane’s passion and energy Nairn Beach Wheelchairs would not have got this far. Jane very sadly died over Easter at home with her family who she adored. She was loved by so many, near and far. She had a dream that we would have our own permanent home for our wheelchairs and we will continue to work towards that. These few photos and words don’t go any

Make a difference ceilidh dance
We want to send a huge shout out to Seonag Anderson, who hosted a Make a Difference ceilidh dance in February and raised an incredible £900 for Nairn Beach Wheelchairs. It is truly wonderful to see such creative and energetic support for our cause. We are so grateful for this contribution, which will go a long way in helping us maintain our equipment and keep our service running for everyone. We also want to extend our thanks to Vivien Macdonald for delivering the cheque and

Get your Jive on!
We are incredibly grateful to Highland Charity Jive for their generous donation of £1,800. This is a truly fantastic way to start the season and provides a wonderful boost to our operations as we prepare for busier days on the beach. It is heartening to see our local community supporting us with such spirit and generosity. Highland Charity Jive hosts jive sessions at the Gaelic School on Friday evenings, which sound like brilliant fun and a great way to bring people together.

A splash of colour
On Saturday, we had intended to complete our risk assessments for the site, but the icy, bitter weather had other plans for us. We decided to pivot, and it turned into a thoroughly lovely alternative, putting up our community bunting around the new cabin. A massive thank you to John Bruce for crafting the beautiful wooden flags, and to the residents at St Olaf for their time and creativity in decorating them. It was a true team effort involving our wider volunteer group, and

Up up and away!
As we continue to build momentum, we want to extend a huge thank you to the Rotary Club of Inverness for their incredibly generous donation of two hoists. These will be instrumental in enabling our service users to transfer safely and comfortably into the beach wheelchairs. Securing this equipment marks another vital step in preparing our base of operations. Every addition like this brings us closer to ensuring that Nairn beach is fully accessible for everyone in our communit

The container has landed!
October 21st 2024, a chilly morning with the wind biting in from the north, something significant arrived in Nairn that many people would have never noticed. A shipping container on the back of a lorry. For most people this is just another passer by on the way into busy Nairn but this was not just any old container, after a year of building and fundraising this was a turning point for Nairn Beach Wheelchairs. After months of planning, conversations, and no small amount of det

It's all coming together
This has been a pretty special month for Nairn Beach Wheelchairs, marking a culmination of hard work and community spirit. We have officially secured our planning permission, the storage container is fully ordered and paid for, and we have successfully assembled all four of our new beach wheelchairs. Beyond the chairs themselves, we have gathered all the essential extras needed to keep our users comfortable and safe, including specialised Stabilo cushions and high-visibility

Look at these beauties!
These beach wheelchairs are an important part of what we do at Nairn Beach Wheelchairs, and seeing them together like this feels like another step forward in making the beach more accessible for everyone. They are now waiting for their first public viewing at Wheels on Nairn at The Links on Saturday 21st September, and we hope as many people as possible will come along to see them for themselves. These chairs will not be available to use just yet. Before that can happen, we s
