The container has landed!

Updated: Apr 30

October 21st 2024, a chilly morning with the wind biting in from the north, something significant arrived in Nairn that many people would have never noticed. A shipping container on the back of a lorry.

For most people this is just another passer by on the way into busy Nairn but this was not just any old container, after a year of building and fundraising this was a turning point for Nairn Beach Wheelchairs.

After months of planning, conversations, and no small amount of determination, our new storage and operations container has finally been delivered and put in place at Nairn Swimming Pool. It might not look glamorous at first glance, but for us, it represents progress, stability, and a big step forward in making the beach more accessible for everyone.

Until now, managing beach wheelchair storage and coordination has meant working around limitations. Equipment had to be stored across different locations, logistics were more complicated than they needed to be, and preparing for busy days on the beach required a lot of behind-the-scenes effort. This container changes that.

Having a dedicated base means our beach wheelchairs can now be stored safely, securely, and in one place, right where they are needed. It gives us a clear operational hub, making it easier for volunteers to organise, maintain, and deploy equipment quickly and efficiently. Less time managing logistics, more time focusing on what really matters, getting people onto the beach.

This is only one step in a much bigger journey. There is still work to do, from refining how bookings and support operate to continuing to raise awareness and funding. But moments like this matter. They give shape to the effort and show that real, progress is happening.

For now, we are taking a moment to appreciate what has been achieved. On a cold October day, something important arrived in Nairn. And it is going to make a difference.
