Our Wheelchairs
We have five manual wheelchairs in stock to suit different postural support needs. These are all available to borrow completely free. If you are unsure which one you would like our experienced and knowledgeable volunteers can help you choose the best one for your needs. Chilly day? We have blankets and mittens. Don't know where to go? We have maps!
All our wheelchairs feature wheels that allow for smooth movement over soft sand, providing a comfortable and reliable ride. These are specialised wheelchairs available to you, at no cost, thanks to the contributions of our amazing donors and tireless work of our volunteers. Each wheelchair can cost in excess of £2000 so without the continued support of our community we would not be able to make your beach trip a reality.
Sand Cruiser
We have two Sand Cruiser all-terrain manual wheelchairs for adults up to a weight of 120kg.
These are suitable for standing transfer or hoisted assistance and comes equipped a lap belt for extra confidence and security on the sand.
This wheelchair provides less postural support than the Hioopcampe.
Sand Piper
We have one small size all-terrain manual wheelchair suitable for children or small adults up to a weight of 120kg.
This is suitable for standing transfer or hoisted assistance and comes equipped a lap belt for extra confidence and security on the sand.
This wheelchair provides less postural support than the Hioopcampe but the smaller size makes these very mobile on and off the sand.
Hippocampe
We have one Hippocampe all-terrain manual wheelchair suitable for children or small adults up to a weight of 120kg.
This is suitable for standing transfer or hoisted assistance and comes equipped a lap belt for extra confidence and security on the sand.
This wheelchair provides the most postural support of all our models and the elongated body provides excellent stability. We have additional Stabilo cushions available if needed to provide even more support.
But that's not all!
We want to make sure everyone has a great day, and sometimes that means you need a blanket or a pair of mittens! We keep several items to hand which can be borrowed as needed. If there's anything we can do to make you more comfortable just ask.
Stabilo Cushions
These incredible cushions deflate around the wheelchair user to give maximum postural support.
Cosy covers and blankets
We have an array of blankets and cosy snugs for the colder days, and towels for when it rains! Don't forget you can use Highlife's accessible shower and toilet if you need to.
Binoculars
Generously donated by Arran Active, we have 5 pairs of binoculars available so you can see all Nairn has to offer.
