Who are we?

We are a small charity based in the beautiful seaside highland town of Nairn. NBW is run by volunteers and  supported by a wonderful community of people who would like to see Nairn beach accessible to everyone. Want to meet the team?

What do we do?

We provide free to borrow, specially designed wheelchairs, which enable access to beautiful Nairn beach. But that's not all, we want everyone to be as comfortable as possible.

Which means we have a hoist to enable those who cannot manually move themselves into the chairs the support they need, blankets, pillows, maps, binoculars we've got it all!

Free?

Yes we provide all our wheelchairs free of charge so our visitors can enjoy the beach without fear of sinking wheels! These are expensive wheelchairs that the average person could not afford, and take up a lot of space. We take that burden away from the individual and enable them to have somewhere they can come without all the added pressures and financial stress.

What is a beach wheelchair?

Beach wheelchairs are designed to tackle the sandy beach terrain, you can find the full details of our available models on our wheelchairs page.

Where can I pick one up?

Appointments are booked in advance and you can find details on how to book via our booking page . Our amazing volunteers will be happy to help with directions to NBW HQ.

Can I help in some way?

Our operation relies on people's kindness. Check out our volunteer page or our donate page for details on how you can get involved and make Nairn a better place.

Why?

We wholeheartedly believe everyone in Nairn deserves the opportunity to enjoy our wonderful town and it's award winning beach. Having a barrier in place preventing some people having that opportunity didn't sit right with us so we took action. We have been gifted the chance to help a grandmother see her grandkids playing on the beach for the first time, someone who once jogged the beach every day but was blocked from it by inaccessibility a chance to come back to that special place. The question is not why do we do it, it's why not?
